Things I DON'T Know

Yes, I do realize that my blog is supposed to be about things I DO know, but this time it's not. There are some things in life that just really bother me; things I simply don't know. I'm wondering if I'm the only one who doesn't know these things, or if others are bothered by them as well.

#1 Why is a place where you do laundry called a laundromat?
I think I use to call it a laundrymat, but then when I realized it had an "o" in it, I was thoroughly disturbed. I don't have a laundro room in my house, so I don't get it.

#2 Why is it that when you're in a huge hurry, you get behind the slowest drivers ever?
It seems to me that traffic is never really bad, and people drive the speed limit only when I'm early for something. If I'm in a huge hurry (especially if I have to use the bathroom) everyone drives extremely slow. It's like people have a radar that tells them to go slowly around me because I might be in a hurry.

#3 What exactly happens to the socks in the wash?
I feel like my socks go into the washer as a pair, and come out of the dryer alone. I have an entire basket of socks with no match. What happens to them? I have looked everywhere and never seem to come up with an answer. However, I do have a solution to the problem. Look through your single socks, and make your own pairs up. Do you have a light blue sock and a navy blue sock? Well, blue is blue, so there's a new pair of socks! One Christmas themed sock, and one Halloween themed sock? That's cool--celebrate both at once. Brown and khaki? That's a match. You're welcome for that great idea!

#4 Why are infomercials so intriguing?
Every time an infomercial comes on, I seem to get caught up in it. It seems like suddenly I don't think I can live without whatever is being featured. I find myself thinking I truly need Bumpits, a Snuggie, or The Clapper. And they always offer such a great deal...you know, "call now and get two for the price of one." I mean, it's really hard to resist.

#5 How do people stay up so late on the East coast?
Our news comes on at 10:00, and I can't even begin to stay up late enough to watch that. Good thing I don't live in the Eastern time zone...there is no way I'd ever be able to watch the news, or prime time TV. I'm pretty sure DVRs were invented for people who live in that time zone...they probably were missing all of the good shows because they were asleep.

#6 Why do bad things happen in sets of three?
It seems to me that one bad thing happening at a time should be enough. But no, it seems like you should always be on the lookout for two more things coming your way. Just a few months ago, in one week I had a minor wreck, a bad esophagus, and a messed up spleen. I could have done with just one of those. I now find myself looking around for bad things that might happen. Just yesterday I tripped down a step, and automatically assumed I'd fall down two more on the way down. I mean, people aren't kidding when they say bad things happen in sets of three. Why not good things?

If you know any of the answers to my questions, please let me know. What questions do you have that you can't figure out the answers to?
